Overview
Dendronephthya (carnation coral) is a non-photosynthetic soft coral without zooxanthellae, glowing in brilliant red, pink and yellow. Stunning as it is, it requires nearly constant supply of fine phytoplankton and the like, and it declines reliably if underfed. It needs no light and prefers strong flow. Long-term care is very difficult, making it a specialist coral requiring dedicated NPS equipment and husbandry. It is best regarded as a species not to acquire casually.
