Overview

'Red Dragon' is an aquacultured lineage traded as Acropora carduus, with dense, thin branches in deep red to wine red. It grows very slowly and reacts to change with fading or tissue loss, which has made it the textbook 'difficult Acropora'. Beyond strong light, strong flow and stable KH, Ca and Mg, avoiding sudden nutrient swings is essential. Frags that have encrusted and started growing are valued far above unattached fragments. As a trade name, we treat it here as a lineage.

How to identify

Red Planet is plating to tabling with green polyps, whereas Red Dragon grows as a three-dimensional thicket of thin branches with reddish polyps and no green contrast. It is easily confused with red branching wild imports, so branch fineness and slow growth are further clues.
