Overview

'Oregon Tort' is an aquacultured lineage traded as Acropora tortuosa, with thick, twisted branches in a solid deep blue. It is known as a lineage long aquacultured and shared among US hobbyists, and spread worldwide as a classic of captive-grown Acropora. Keep it under strong light and strong flow with stable KH, Ca and Mg; insufficient light muddies the blue toward purple or brown. Growth is slowish, but encrusted frags are hardy. As a trade name, we treat it here as a lineage.

How to identify

Blue Tenuis has slimmer branches with radial polyps, whereas Oregon Tort has thick twisted branches, small polyps and an even blue. Telling it apart from wild-import tortuosa by looks alone is difficult; rely on aquaculture provenance.

Grade tiers

Grade names used in the trade for this genus. Criteria vary by seller.

Standard

Acropora is rated by brand (such as WWC, TSA and JF), aquaculture generation and how well the frag has established.

Typical price range
