Overview

'Dragon Soul Torch' is a trade name for a multicolored torch coral with warm-toned tentacles and bright tips, widely regarded in the hobby as a flagship of the high-end torch market. Although sold by name, coloration varies considerably between individuals and sellers, so specimens under the same label do not all look alike. Like all Euphyllia, it prefers moderate light and gentle flow, and it extends long sweeper tentacles, so keep ample distance from neighbors. It is prone to brown jelly disease, so take extra care right after shipping and avoid skeletal damage and sudden water-quality swings. We treat it here as a trade-name lineage.

How to identify

It is most often compared with Hellfire Torch: Dragon Soul tends to show a deeper red-to-orange body with stronger contrast at the tips. The boundary depends on how sellers label their stock, and it cannot be confirmed from appearance alone.

Grade tiers

Grade names used in the trade for this genus. Criteria vary by seller.

Standard
Common specimens with green or brown tentacles tipped in white to yellow.
Select
Specimens with gold, pink or purple coloration on the tentacles or tips; named trade lines usually fall here.

Torch coral pricing is driven by trade name (such as Dragon Soul) and head count rather than grade.

Typical price range

As a rough guide, expect several tens of thousands of yen up to well over a hundred thousand yen per head. Prices vary widely with color intensity and seller, and multi-head colonies cost considerably more.

Varies widely by season, specimen and seller. Treat as a rough guide.
