Overview

'Black Torch' is a color-form label applied collectively to torches whose tentacles appear black to deep brown; it does not denote a single propagated lineage. Many specimens combine a dark body with gold or green tips, and that contrast is the draw. Because it is not one lineage, the degree of darkness and the tip color vary from piece to piece. Care follows Euphyllia in general: moderate light, gentle flow, and spacing for its sweeper tentacles. A dark body can be hard to tell from stress-induced browning, so judge health by polyp inflation and tip color. We treat it here as a color-form lineage.

How to identify

It is separated from other lineages by the darkness of the body, but distinguishing it from an ordinary torch that has browned under shipping stress is the challenge. A healthy Black Torch has well-inflated tentacles with clearly colored tips.
