'Aussie Hammer' is an origin-based label for hammer corals traded as Australian stock; it does not denote a single propagated lineage. Most pieces have wall-type skeletons with thick, short tentacles, and some keepers rate them as hardy and stable in color. Because wall skeletons are hard to split, they are usually sold as whole colonies and priced above Indonesian imports. Care follows Euphyllia in general: moderate light, gentle flow, and spacing for its sweeper tentacles. Brown jelly disease precautions are the same as for other hammers. We treat it here as an origin lineage.
How to identify
It is distinguished from Indo Hammer by origin label: Australian pieces tend toward wall skeletons and thick, short tentacles, Indonesian ones toward branching skeletons and slender tentacles. Individual variation is large, and origin cannot be confirmed from appearance alone.
