Overview
'Sunkist Bounce' is a trade name for a bounce mushroom whose body, not just its bubbles, is unified in warm orange-to-yellow tones. It spread as a derivative of the OG Bounce, and where OG is defined by contrast, Sunkist reads as an all-warm piece. Keep it like other bounces under low-to-moderate light and gentle flow; too much light fades the color and deflates the bubbles. It propagates by splitting and is traded per polyp. We register it here as a lineage and do not assert origin.
How to identify
OG Bounce shows orange bubbles against a green-to-purple body, while Sunkist has an orange-to-yellow body as well. Jawbreaker is a Discosoma with no bubbles, so any rounded bumps indicate a bounce type.
Grade tiers
Grade names used in the trade for this genus. Criteria vary by seller.
- Standard
- Small bubbles and a single color; young specimens that have not yet formed bubbles also fall here.
- Select
- Clearly formed bubbles with two colors split between the base and the bubbles.
- Ultra
- Large bubbles in multiple colors; the more uniform the bubble count and size, the higher the rating.
Bounce mushrooms are rated by bubble size and color count. For named lines such as OG and Sunkist, see the lineage pages.
