Overview

'OG Bounce' is the name for the lineage that started the bounce mushroom craze: rounded orange bubbles rising from a green-to-purple body. The bubbles are swollen Rhodactis tentacles that grow in number and size over time. The OG label came into use to set the original apart once derivative lineages appeared. Keep it under low-to-moderate light and gentle flow; strong light or flow tends to deflate the bubbles. It propagates by splitting and is traded per polyp. We register it here as a lineage and do not assert origin.

How to identify

Sunkist Bounce leans orange overall with a warm body, whereas OG shows orange bubbles on a contrasting green-to-purple body. Jawbreaker is a Discosoma with no bubbles and color patches on a flat disc, so it is a different animal.

Grade tiers

Grade names used in the trade for this genus. Criteria vary by seller.

Standard
Small bubbles and a single color; young specimens that have not yet formed bubbles also fall here.
Select
Clearly formed bubbles with two colors split between the base and the bubbles.
Ultra
Large bubbles in multiple colors; the more uniform the bubble count and size, the higher the rating.

Bounce mushrooms are rated by bubble size and color count. For named lines such as OG and Sunkist, see the lineage pages.
