Overview
Montipora setosa (family Acroporidae) is a small-polyp stony (SPS) coral distributed across the Indo-Pacific with an encrusting growth form. In the aquarium trade, specimens showing deep red to orange coloration circulate under names like red or sunset Montipora and are prized for their vivid color. The surface bears tiny polyps and a fine, fuzzy texture. Provide moderate to strong lighting and moderate turbulent flow, with stable calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. It encrusts and overgrows rock, so allow ample space. Growth is relatively fast and fragging is easy, making it well suited to propagation. Proper lighting and nutrient management are key to coloration, and it suits intermediate or more experienced SPS keepers.
