Overview
Millepora (fire coral) is a hydrozoan rather than an anthozoan reef-builder and carries a potent sting. Bare-handed contact causes burn-like pain and inflammation, so beware accidental contact with specimens hitchhiking on live rock. It is zooxanthellate and grows robustly, but it stings tankmates and is not suited to intentional keeping. We list it here as identification information for a hazardous species. Use protective gloves when handling.
