Overview

'Bleeding Heart Scoly' is a trade name for a pattern where red around the mouth bleeds into the surrounding green or other colors like blood from a heart. The name describes the layout, not a lineage from a specific farm. Usage is less standardized than Bleeding Apple, and sellers interpret how far the red should spread differently. Keep it like other Scolymia under low-to-moderate light and gentle flow on the sand bed, with night feeding. We register it here as a named pattern and do not assert origin.

How to identify

It is the reverse of Bleeding Apple: the center is red and the outer field green or another color. Warpaint mixes red and green in sharp streaks, while Bleeding Heart has soft, bleeding boundaries.

Grade tiers

Grade names used in the trade for this genus. Criteria vary by seller.

Standard
Single- or two-color specimens, mostly solid green, red or orange with faint or no pattern.
Select
Two to three colors with a clearly defined concentric or radial pattern, a step above standard in color intensity.
Ultra
Three or more colors with distinct concentric or splatter patterns, traded as "Ultra Scoly".
Master
Top tier with four or more colors approaching a rainbow, sold as "Master Scoly"; named specimens such as Bleeding Apple and Warpaint fall here.

Grades are assigned at the seller's discretion based on color count, pattern and color intensity. Lighting in photos (blue-heavy actinics in particular) changes the impression greatly, so check the specimen in person or under neutral light where possible.

Typical price range

Roughly 30,000-150,000 yen per specimen as a guide. Prices vary widely with the quality of the bleed, color count and seller.

Varies widely by season, specimen and seller. Treat as a rough guide.
