Overview
'Meteor Shower Cyphastrea' is an encrusting Cyphastrea lineage with small orange polyps dotted over blue-to-purple tissue, and one of the most widespread named Cyphastrea. It grows quickly, spreading as a thin crust over rock, and is considered beginner-friendly even from a frag. Keep it under low-to-moderate light and moderate flow; the blue base fades under strong light, so a slightly shaded spot keeps the contrast. Polyps extend at night to capture fine foods. We register it here as a lineage and do not assert origin.
How to identify
It is told from other named Cyphastrea, branching types or green-based ones, by the orange polyps on a blue-to-purple base. From similarly colored encrusting Leptoseris (lepto), Cyphastrea is distinguished by its small raised corallites.
Typical price range
Roughly 3,000-10,000 yen per frag as a guide. Prices vary widely with size, color and seller.
Varies widely by season, specimen and seller. Treat as a rough guide.
